The AK 47 or Kalashnikov Automatic Rifle 1947 model is an assault rifle designed around 1946 by Mikhail Kalashnikov. Its place of origin is the Soviet Union and its Armed Forces formally declared its acceptance in the year 1949. The AK 47 rifle is popular for its ability to produce hydrostatic shock on bullet wounds due to its ability to fire the 7.62x39mm cartridge at a rate of 600 rounds per minute.

Specifications
The AK 47 weighs 4.3 kg or nine and a half pounds without the magazine. In fastened wooden stock, its length is 870 millimeters while the folding stock extends around 875 millimeters and 645 in the same unit in stock folded. The length of the barrel is 415 millimeters.
As mentioned earlier, the cartridge measures around 7.62x39 millimeters. It is operated under gas-operation system and it has a rotating-bolt method of locking. The rate of fire is 600 rounds per minute at a velocity of 715 meters per second, which is 2,346 feet per second. The rifle is very effective in a range of 300 meters for automatic, and 400 meters for semi-automatic.

Variations
The AK47 civilian variant is semi-automatic. It has derived from the rifles AKM, AK-74, and RPK. The fully automatic AK-47 fires several shots by only holding down the trigger once, given that the selector is positioned in the middle. The fully automatic AK 47 is restricted to the civilians but its ownership is currently abused due to smuggling activities. There is also the semi-automatic AK 47, which is a one-shot one-press type of AK 47, but it can be converted into a fully automatic. The 223 AK 47 sporter rifle is similarly built to the Soviet AK 47 but mechanically improved. It is typically used as a sporting rifle, which is great for long-range hunting.

AK 47 Receivers

Ammunition and Magazine
The civilian Kalashnikov ammunition uses the same cartridge as AK 47 assault rifle and it comes in three types. The first one has corrosive ammunition. It is unsuitable for hunting due to the steel cases and berdan primers that does not permit reloads. The second one has non-corrosive ammunition. It also has steel cases and berdan primers. The third one is ideal for hunting and self-defense. It is also non-corrosive with re-loadable ammunition. On the other hand, civilian Kalashnikov magazines offer 20, 30, 40, and 55 round tanker magazines. The most common is the 30 round magazines. While the 40 and 55 are quite unreliable, the 20 round magazines are specifically designed for armored cars.
